Mark Douglas, American Express’s UK head of sales has said that the recession is bound to have a long-standing effect on companies’ psyche and that going ahead, the downturn will prompt them to book “smarter”.
Terming the coming year as ‘new normal’, Douglas told ABTN that post recession, businesses can sense a larger demand for travel coming from companies. He, however, believes that companies would now be looking at restricted levels of spending, when it came to business travel.
Douglas predicts that a larger volume of business travel, combined with more efficient and effective methods of travelling, is going to be the new norm for business travel.
With small companies anticipated to lead UK out of the downturn, American Express’s offerings such as its revamped SME product Axcent, which replaced the American Express One product, are expected to become more critical.
American Express also plans to launch ‘Small Meetings eXpert’, a fully automated solution designed to help firms manage the cost of group meetings better, in markets worldwide.
